When a house becomes a Manse

Day four in the Manse and here I sit drinking coffee and eating pastries (do iced finger buns count as pastries?) watching BBC News, filling out paperwork (new address stuff) and listening to a guy called Steve cleaning our carpets. Anyway as promised here comes the Epic (I do like that word) story of moving in to my study. To begin with the room was full of not just study stuff but also boxes for every other room in the house and two homeless wardrobes (Ikea's finest, £50 each). After a lot of these boxes had been, shall we say, reallocated (I stuck them in the hall, bedroom and living room), I set about populating my bookcase. This went very smoothly (warning bells), so I brought the desk down from upstairs and positioned it next to the book case, it fitted like a dream. I set up my computer on the desk and plugged it in...............and nothing. Settling in

Well things are beginning to look and feel a bit more organised here at the Manse. Although most things are still in boxes, we have a bed now which is a major improvement on the previous night sleeping on a futon mattress on the floor. The kitchen is pretty much unpacked and operational which meant a nice cup of coffee and chocolate weetabix for breakfast in the conservatory while I updated Facebook and Twitter. Nice. I had a very busy day yesterday. The removal men who were due to arrive at 9.30am arrived at 8.30am as I was about to step into the shower, great start. But all credit to the boys from Whites of Birmingham they got everything moved in fast an efficiently, although they didn't manage to get Isaac's wardrobe upstairs even though I am still convinced it would fit. Met the property steward and he was very helpful, talking us through what had and had not been done on the Manse and why. 40 b4 40

4 years ago now I was thinking about my 30th birthday looming on the horizon. I had a little look through my mental checklist of things to do before I reached 30 and I realised I had pretty much done what I had wanted, married, family, work etc. But there were 3 things I still wanted to get done. 1) Get fit 2) Do something BIG for charity 3) See the Great Wall of China Long story short this lead me to train for and run the Great Wall Marathon for the Charity Open Doors. Having this list spurred me on to do something amazing I would not have otherwise done, so I have been thinking. What do I want to have done before I am 40? So here I have come up with a list of 40 things to try and do in the next 7 years before the cake and balloons. I don't plan to do these in order by the way, just to tick them off as I go. 1) Write and publish a book.
